Sunset Viking Voyage Oil Canvas

After the Vikings invaded Ireland in 795AD. They began to move around the irish coast attacking mainly monasteries. One of these was Skellig Michael off the coast of Co.Kerry. Dating back to the 6th century and home to the monks of St. Fionan. This was the most westerly sacred site in europe. I have tried in this painting to convey the spirituality of this isolated location and the incredible determination and bravery of the vikings. Covering some vast distances also depicted are the acrobatic and mischievous birds the Clough who live on isolated areas such as the Skelligs.
